LAWTON — Lawton City Council said goodbye Monday to an outgoing councilman and welcomed his replacement.

The council hosted a swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Stan Booker, returning Councilwoman Mary Ann Hankins and incoming Councilman Kelly Harris in the City Hall Auditorium. Booker and Hankins are starting their second three-year terms on the council, while Harris is beginning his first term as the Ward 2 representative on the council.

Booker began the ceremony with a tribute to former Councilman Keith Jackson, who had represented Ward 2 for two decades.

“This is your last meeting after 22 incredible years. What a great example,” Booker said. “You’ve indeed left your mark on our community, and history will remember you fondly for all of your contributions.”

Booker also said he wanted to thank each elected official for devoting their time and effort to serving Lawton.

Hankins said she felt humbled that the residents of Ward 1 had chosen her to represent them.

“It’s been a good three years, and I’m getting ready to do three more,” she said.

After declaring the end of the current administration, Booker joined Hankins and Harris in front of the dais for the swearing-in portion of the ceremony. Municipal Court Judge Nathan Johnson performed the ceremony, followed by Booker declaring the start of the new administration.

“I want to welcome Councilman Harris to the council,” Booker said after roll was called for the new administration. “I look forward to working with you, and I appreciate you taking the challenge of seeking and serving as an important role in service to our citizens.”

Harris said he was honored to join the council.

“I’m looking forward to serving the citizens of Ward 2 and the citizens of all of Lawton to the best of my ability,” he said.
