LAWTON — City officials are turning to a recruiting firm for help finding Lawton’s next city manager.

The Lawton City Council voted unanimously June 6 to approve a contract with Texas-based Strategic Government Resources to help with the city manager search.

The city’s human resources department received four proposals from companies interested in working on the search, according to a May 25 memo from Human Resources Director Craig Akard.

“After reviewing the bids, we feel that the contract should be awarded to Strategic Government Resources who proposed the best value, and lowest overall cost, to the City,” Akard wrote. “As the lowest bidder, as well as past history working with the City of Lawton, Strategic Government Resources is a reputable company with a strong background with the City.”

The city will pay Strategic Government Resources up to $27,400 for its services, which will include:

• Producing a position profile brochure and marketing and advertising the position.

• Conducting online interviews for up to 12 semifinalists.

• Conducting background investigations and reference checks for up to five finalists.

Any supplemental services, such as conducting additional background checks will not be included in the not-to-exceed price.

Lawton is looking for someone to succeed former City Manager Michael Cleghorn, who resigned in March. Former City Attorney John Ratliff is serving as acting city manager until Cleghorn’s replacement is hired.
