LAWTON – Cynthia Williams, who has worked for the city of Lawton for 18 years, is the city’s new deputy director of public works.
Williams joined the city staff in 2003 as an industrial pretreatment compliance officer, the city said Friday in a news release. She became the city’s chief chemist and industrial pretreatment coordinator in 2005 and became superintendent of the wastewater treatment plant three years later.
Williams served as the city’s environmental specialist from 2011 until she accepted her new assignment.
As the deputy director of public works, Williams will oversee activities of the city’s solid waste, stormwater management and drainage maintenance divisions, according to the news release. As an environmental specialist, she managed the stormwater program, Community Rating System reporting, the All Hazard Mitigation program and landfill permitting.
Williams holds several professional licenses and certificates, including a Class A wastewater operator certificate and an Environmental Protection Agency wastewater management certificate. She earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Cameron University.
Williams is honored to continue her career with the city, she said in the news release.
“My passion is to protect our environment here in Lawton, and I look forward to continue exercising that passion in this new role,” she said.
In her new role, Williams will serve under Public Works Director Larry Wolcott, who has been with the city since 1997.
“Cynthia and I have worked closely together for the past decade,” Wolcott said in the news release. “Her degree and career background will serve as the perfect assets for her new role and the divisions she will oversee.”
