LAWTON – With warmer weather approaching, City Hall issued updates on plans for aquatics and parks improvements.
The City Council hired C.H. Guernsey and Co. last November to design a new Aquatics Center to be funded through Propel FY24.
The facility, to be located in Elmer Thomas Park, is planned to feature a lazy river, two slides, a plunge pool, a few lap lanes suitable for swimming lessons, as well as restrooms, lockers, changing facilities, and parking. The plans include the capability for future expansion.
The Aquatic Center is in the design phase, with construction expected to start this August and opening date projected for Memorial Day 2025.
The East Side and Lee West Park Improvements, including a new splash pad, restroom, and parking facilities, are in the design phase. The City Council approved GH2 Architects for that project on Jan. 23, and the contract stipulates a 45-day timeline for the design.
Funding for this initiative is sourced from the 2019 CIP/Park Improvements budget.
