LAWTON – The City of Lawton has revived its mask mandate inside all municipal facilities where city staffers work or public services are administered by the city. The mandate went into effect at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 5, and will continue until further notice, Community Relations Director Tiffany Vrska said.

“[I]n order to best protect our workforce and safeguard citizens” in accordance with guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “masks will be required inside all City of Lawton managed facilities,” City Manager Michael Cleghorn decreed.

“This is regardless of vaccination status,” he added. “Social distancing to the extent possible in group settings is also encouraged.”

A mask mandate imposed by the city last year was relaxed less than three months ago after Governor Stitt rescinded his COVID-19 State of Emergency declaration on May 4. However, the requirement has not been repealed, because circumstances arising from the coronavirus have remained fluid.
