Lawton ‘Trash Off’ rescheduled

LAWTON – “Trash Off” is rescheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot at McMahon Memorial Auditorium.

The annual event originally was planned for April 26 but was postponed because of inclement weather.

“This event gives Lawton residents an opportunity to dispose of large, bulky, or environmentally hazardous items that shouldn’t be placed in regular trash,” said Caitlin Gatlin, the batteries, tires (no larger than truck size), scrap metal, appliances, fire extinguishers, paint, and other items that require special disposal. Medical and hazardous waste, ammunition, compressed gas cylinders, tires with rims, and commercial waste will not be accepted.

The Trash Off event is free for Lawton residents, but participants must provide proof of a Lawton address by using a government-issued ID, a City of Lawton utility bill, or an active military ID. Nonresidents also can participate for a $25 fee, payable by cash or check.
