Logan County Commissioner Kody Ellis is planning to resign amid an investigation into allegations of embezzlement.

Ellis, who represents District 2 on the Board of Logan County Commissioners, announced his plans during the commission’s Feb. 15 meeting, according to the online news site Guthrie News Page. His resignation will take effect Feb. 28.

“I just want everybody to know that I will be filing a formal resignation,” the News Page quoted Ellis as saying. “I appreciate everything that everybody has done. I just want to apologize.”

Ellis’ resignation comes after the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation announced it was investigating allegations of embezzlement involving an elected official in Logan County. The News Page said it had confirmed through multiple sources that the investigation revolved around Ellis, who joined the commission in January 2021.

OSBI officials spoke with Ellis during a closed-door meeting following the commission’s Jan. 13 meeting, according to the News Page. Specific details of the embezzlement allegations have not been released.

After reviewing the investigation, Logan County District Attorney Laura Austin Thomas has recused her office from the case and turned it over to the Oklahoma attorney general’s office.
