OKLAHOMA CITY — Maressa Treat defeated her two opponents last week to earn the Republican nod in the race of Oklahoma County Clerk.

Treat, who is the wife of Senate Pro Tempore Greg Treat, captured 7,291 votes in the GOP primary election, defeating Gloria Banister, who received 4,837 votes, and Jonathan Clour who received 1,768 votes.

Treat said she was honored by the support and was focused on the April 4 general election.

“I greatly appreciate my supporters, donors and countless volunteers who gave so much effort over the past several months. We are running this campaign with integrity and honesty, which is exactly what I will to bring to this position,” she said. “It has been an honor to meet so many Oklahomans in our community and listen to their perspectives about this office. The fact they would take time out of their busy lives to go to the polls and vote for me is humbling and something I don’t take lightly.”

Treat will face Democrat Derrick Scobey, who captured the most votes in the Democratic primary. Scobey defeated Tiffany Ellis with 3,339 votes; Sean Cummings, who captured 3,154 votes; B.C. Phillips with 1,521 votes; and Tom Guild with 1,256.

Scobey said he was running to ensure all residents in Oklahoma County were treated fairly.

“This is a nonpartisan office, or at least it should be. However, my opponent is wrapped up in a political machine that would bring partisanship and chaos to an office that needs stability,” he said. “I’m running for county clerk because families and businesses in our community need fewer hassles and the peace of mind that everyone, regardless of their political connections, will get equal treatment.”

Scobey and Treat will face off in the April 4 general election.
