MEDICINE PARK – Medicine Park is looking for candidates to fill two vacant seats on the town’s Board of Trustees.
The board decided April 17 to call for a special election to replace former Trustees Stephanie New and Dwight Cope but did not set a date for the vote. New recently resigned from the board, and Cope rotated off the board when his term ended.
Former Trustee Chad Everett also rotated off the board this year. Tracy Owen and Rich Amadon filed for two open seats; each candidate ran unopposed.
The board was slated to discuss reappointing Cope to his former seat, but Mayor John Branch said he would rather hold a special election to fill Cope’s and New’s slots on the board.
“We have two openings, and we’re going to try to go with a special election and let the people of Medicine Park decide who’s on this board,” he said.
“I think that if you want to be on this board, you should be able to win an election.”
The board was also scheduled to elect from its ranks a mayor to serve a two-year term, but Branch said he would rather delay the mayoral vote until the board has five members again. The board currently consists of Branch, Owen and Amadon.
In other business, the board considered hiring a code enforcement officer/floodplain administrator, but no action was taken.
