Medicine Park to prepare scope for Town Hall renovation project

MEDICINE PARK – The Medicine Park Board of Trustees took the first step recently toward rebuilding the facade at Town Hall.

The trustees directed staff on April 18 to prepare the scope of work and seek price quotes for the project, then present the quotes to the board at its next meeting.

The current façade is rotten and fallen apart, said Councilman Dwight Cope.

“It’s just in bad shape, and it needs some attention – probably just taking it down and redoing it,” he said. “If somebody has a different idea and wants to do something different, I don’t care.”

Mayor John Branch originally proposed putting the project out for bids. But Fire Chief David McCoy said the town needed to determine the project’s scope of work before advertising it.

“If we’re going to get bids – accurate bids – we need to have a drawing of that, of what we’re thinking,” McCoy said. “Because you can’t just tell somebody to come in and do it without having one.”

Elgin Mayor JJ Francais, who is working as a consultant for the town, stated that a councilmember could make a motion that he prepare a scope of work and staff could ask contractors to submit quotes for the project. The council could then review quotes at next month’s meeting.
