The National Archives and Records Administration will release population records from the 1950 census digitally on April 1, the U.S. Census Bureau said recently.

The release is in accordance with a federal law, known as “the 72-year rule,” which says NARA is responsible for releasing decennial census records to the public after 72 years, according to the Census Bureau’s website.
