OKLAHOMA CITY – Nearly $1.8 million will be spent to resurface more than six miles of asphalt pavement in Kiowa County.

According to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT), Ozark Trail Road (County Road 1380) will be repaved with fresh asphalt from its junction at US-183 near Hobart and extending eastward for five miles.

“This is one of our major collectors,” Kiowa County District 1 Commissioner Tim Binghom said. “It links US-183 with SH-54 and connects residents from the eastern part of the county with Hobart.”

The state Transportation Commission awarded a $1.3 million contract on the project to T&G Construction of Lawton. ODOT allotted 60 days to complete the work after construction starts.

The 11-mile county road was last repaved in about 2001, Binghom said Thursday. “We’ll come back and repave the other six miles when we get some more money.”

In another project, SH- 44A will be repaved with asphalt from the junction of SH-44 near Lugert and extending north for almost 1.4 miles. That section of highway carries approximately 360 vehicles per day, ODOT records reflect.

The Transportation Commission awarded a $495,629 contract on that project to Caswell Contracting of Elk City. The work is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, ODOT reported.
