Oklahoma Corporation Commission to meet Wednesday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Two bills co-authored by Rep. Brad Boles (R-Marlow) will be discussed at the Oklahoma Corporation Commission regular meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 21.

Documents show that Senate Bill 1568, authored by Sen. Dave Rader (R-Tulsa), proposes to amend statute 17 O.S. 2021, Section 52, which relates to clarifying well jurisdiction of the commission. Other statutes listed in the bill relate to jurisdiction of environmental agencies and modifying authority over certain injection wells.

The last legislative action on the bill was recorded on Feb. 6, noting the Second Reading referred to the Energy and Telecommunications Committee then to the Appropriations Committee. The OCC agenda states the Commission will have a briefing and discussion on the bill, along with SB 1569. Discussion and a possible vote(s) on a statement and/or letter or other direction to commission staff will be considered.

A bill analysis on SB 1569 (Oklahoma Carbon Sequestration Enhancement Act) at trackbill. com notes the proposal, also authored by Sen. Rader, clarifies that the duties of the Oklahoma Conservation Commission relating to carbon sequestration shall not include geologic carbon sequestration occurring in Underground Injection Control Class II or Class VI projects. The Commission’s jurisdiction to sequestration would only extend to terrestrial and agricultural carbon sequestration practices.

The last legislative action on the bill was recorded on Feb. 15, reported as Do Pass Energy and Telecommunications committee; CR (committee report) filed. The OCC will have a briefing and discussion on the bill and consider a possible vote(s) on a statement and/or letter or other direction to commission staff.
