Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.11 of an inch for the week of Sept. 5-11, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The Sept. 6 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 100% abnormally to exceptionally dry, unchanged from the previous week. Additionally, 97% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, down two points from the previous week.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the lower 70s. Topsoil moisture conditions were rated mostly short to adequate, while subsoil moisture conditions were rated short to very short.
Here’s a look at how crops performed for the week:
Small grains: Winter wheat planted reached 11%, up four points from the previous year and seven points from normal.
Row crops: Corn dough reached 95%, down three points from the previous year. Corn dented reached 82%, up two points from the previous year and four points from normal.
Corn mature reached 37%, down four points from the previous year and four points from normal. Corn harvested reached 15%.
Sorghum headed reached 95%, down one point from the previous year and two points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 70%, up three points from the previous year and two points from normal.
Sorghum mature reached 26%, up two points from the previous year but down three points from normal.
Soybeans blooming reached 95%, down one point from the previous year but up two points from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 74%, down two points from the previous year but up one point from normal. Soybeans dropping leaves reached 12%, up two points from the previous year and two points from normal.
Peanuts mature reached 40%, up seven points from the previous year and 15 points from normal.
Cotton bolls opening reached 28%, up six points from the previous year but down five points from normal.
Hay: In the central district, reporters indicated that hay yields are approximately half of normal.
The fourth cutting of alfalfa hay reached 53%, down five points from the previous year and 16 points from normal.
The third cutting of other hay reached 50%, up 24 points from the previous year and 23 points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 68% very poor to poor. Livestock condition was rated at 75% fair to good.
