Oklahoma oil/gas rig count holds steady

Oklahoma’s oil and gas rig count held steady over the past w eek while the nationwide numbers declined by one, leaving 620 active drilling rigs across the U.S., Baker Hughes Co. reported last Friday.

Oklahoma’s count totaled 44 rigs, the same as a w eek ago but 14 lower than one year ago.

Nationally the count included a gain of two oil rigs to r each 508, while the number of gas drilling rigs declined by two to 110. The U.S. count is 130 down fr om last year at this time , when the national numbers totaled 751. The drop included 82 oil rigs a nd 48 gas rigs.

Oklahoma’s count of 44 compares to Texas, where there was gain of seven rigs to a to tal of 297. N ew Mexico dropped by three to 108, while North Dakota remained at 32 rigs. Louisiana’s count slipped by two to 39 rigs .

The Red Top Rig Report published by the Independent Oil and Gas Association in Kansas indicated the count in that state f ell by one to 31 rigs. Colorado remained at 15 and Wyoming stayed at 11 rigs .

Pennsylvania added a rig to r each 22, while Utah was unchanged at 12 and West Virginia’s count dropped one to eight rigs. Ohio continued with a count of 12 rigs .

The Permian Basin remained the most active oil and gas region with a growth of one rig to a to tal of 317. The Eagle Ford added a rig to hit 56, w hile the Williston remained at 34 rigs a nd the Haynesville count declined by two to 34 rigs. The Marcellus was unchanged at 30 rigs.

The Ardmore Woodford, as of this most recent Baker Hughes release, has no reported drilling activity after losing its onl y rig in the past week. The Arkoma Woodford remained at one rig, w hile the Cana Woodford count grew by one to 22 rigs. The Barnett play still has no drilling activity and the D-J Basin was unchanged at 11 rigs .

The Granite Wash stayed at three and the Mississippian saw no change with two active drilling rigs. The Utica play stayed at 12 rigs.
