Oklahoma receives little precipitation in late June

From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.82 inches for the week of June 24-30, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The June 25 U.S Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 52% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, down 25 points from last year. Additionally, 20% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, down 16 points from the previous year.

Statewide temperatures averaged from the lower to the upper 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork.

Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week of June 24-30: Small grains: Rye harvested reached 95%, up three points from the previous week and 24 points from normal.

Oats harvested reached 58%, up 11 points from the previous week and 22 points from normal.

Row crops: Corn silking reached 41 percent, up 10 points from the previous week and 18 points from normal. Sorghum planted reached 95%, up four points from the previous week and nine points from normal. Sorghum headed reached 9%, up nine points from the previous week and five points from normal. Soybeans planted reached 91%, up eight points from previous week and 17 points from normal. Soybeans emerged reached 70%, up 13 points from the previous week and 15 points from normal. Uplandcotton planted reached 97%, up six points from the previous week and one point from normal. Upland cotton squaring reached 20%, up 15 points from the previous week and two points from normal.

Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 60%, up 30 points from the previous week and four points from normal.

The first cutting of other hay reached 95%, up eight points from the previous week and 15 points from normal. The second cutting of other hay reached 19%, up 13 points from the previous week and 14 points from normal.

Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 76% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 86% good to fair.
