From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 0.09 inches for the week of July 22-28, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The July 23 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 63% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 15 points from previous year. Additionally, 18% of the state w as in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, unchanged from the previous year.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 70s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork.
Here’s a look at how crops fared for the week: Small grains: Oats harvested reached 90%, up nine points from the previous week but down three points from normal.
Row crops: Corn silking reached 92%, up seven points from the previous week and 19 points from normal. Corn dough reached 32%, up 13 points from the previous week and nine points from normal.
Corn dented reached 12%, up seven points from the previous week.
Sorghum headed reached 40%, up 22 points from the previous week and 10 points from normal.
Sorghum coloring reached 12%, up seven points from the previous week and four points from normal.
Soybeans emerged reached 95%, up five points from the previous week. Soybeans blooming reached 19%, up seven points from the previous week but down 17 poin ts from normal. Soybeans setting pods reached 5%, up five points from the previous week.
Peanuts pegging reached 55%, up five points from the previous week and two points from normal.
Upland cotton squaring reached 91%, up 26 points from the previous week and 16 points from normal. Upland cotton setting bolls reached 31%, up 26 points from the previous week and three points from normal.
Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 95%, up three points from the previous week. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 49%, up 24 points from the previous week but down three points from normal.
The second cutting of other hay reached 49%, up five points from the previous week and 11 points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 80% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
