LAWTON — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation of Comanche County Commissioner John O’Brien, who represents District 1 on the commission.

OSBI’s public information manager, Hunter McKee, confirmed the investigation Thursday but did not comment on the allegations.

“The OSBI was requested by the Comanche County District Attorney’s Office, to investigate allegations, regarding the Comanche County Commissioner’s Office,” he said in an email to Southwest Ledger. “This is still an ongoing investigation.”

District Attorney Kyle Cabelka confirmed that he asked OSBI to open an investigation of O’Brien, about three weeks ago. However, Cabelka said he could not give specific details of the allegations.

A resident of Elgin, O’Brien defeated longtime Commissioner Gail Turner in the August 2022 runoff election for the District 1 seat on the commission. O’Brien took office in January.

O’Brien said Friday he could not comment on the investigation, as a final report has not been submitted.
