From staff reports Two state agencies have launched an investigation into suspected water pollution that might have caused the death of nearly two dozen head of cattle in Caddo County.
The plight for rancher Mike Loula is on his ranch along Five Mile Creek near the town of Eakly. He’s lost at least 23 cows and two calves to what he believes is polluted water in the stream.
“I noticed … there was a hole and it was … bubbling and boiling, and that’s when I decided it’s going into the creek somewhere, but we gotta find it,” Loula said. KOCO-TV 5’s story includes film of water “bubbling and boiling” at a spot where a hole was dug.
The Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Oklahoma Corporation Commission have started investigating possible sources of the feared contamination.
The Oklahoma City television station reported the Corporation Commission has not only warned Loula’s neighbors but is monitoring nearby water supplies.
