Lawton residents who want to tour the new Public Safety Center, 100 S. Railroad St., may sign up for guided tours online at www.tinyurl.com/ lawtonpsctour.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, tours will be available on a limited basis following a closed ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 16, the city said in a news release. The tours and the event will depend on the weather that day.

“Though this event may look a little different than previous ribbon-cutting ceremonies, we are still very excited to debut this building to the community and give so many of our hardworking public safety officials a new, beautiful home,” said City Manager Michael Cleghorn.

City officials expect to receive keys to the building by the end of February, and staff will likely start moving in after the ribbon cutting, according to the news release. The move is expected to take several weeks.

The new building will house Municipal Court, the Lawton Police Department, the city jail and the firefighting crews from Lawton Fire Department Station 1. The three-story, 106,778-square-foot building cost about $34 million and was financed by proceeds from the sales tax extension voters approved in 2015, according to the news release.

Additional tours will be scheduled once staffers are moved into the building in the months ahead, and the city will produce a virtual tour as well.
