Recycler offers service in Lawton

LAWTON – A recycling company active in a dozen states is poised to provide service in Lawton.

The City Council approved a recycling services agreement with Recyclops at the June 22 council meeting.

Approximately 85 residents have pre-enrolled for the service, and the company announced it will begin operations after it receives commitments from 100 customers. The City of Lawton has approximately 28,500 solid-waste customers, said Tiffany Vrska, the city’s community relations director.

A basic subscription to the Recyclops service starts at $12 per month.

Materials accepted for recycling, according to the city and to the company’s website, includes paper, corrugated cardboard, plastic bottles (empty), plastic containers, aluminum or steel cans and containers, bi-metals, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and books.

Items that still contain food or grease will not be accepted. Nor will plastic bags, plastic wraps, bubble wrap, batteries, electronics, or hazardous material of any type.

“There’s no need to sort” your items, Recyclops says. “Just bag all of your clean recyclables in our Recyclops bags” and place them at the curb on the designated collection day.

The City of Lawton collects residential trash but does not offer a recycling service.

Recyclops was founded in Utah in 2014. Besides Oklahoma, it has operations in Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, North Carolina, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming, its website shows.

The company reports it already provides recycling service in Bartlesville, Del City, and Yukon, and wants to establish operations in Bethany, El Reno, and Moore, as well as Lawton.
