Rig Report: U.S. makes gain in rig activity, Oklahoma count slips

Another increase in oil and gas drilling rigs across the U.S. was reported Friday when Baker Hughes announced its rig count.

The U.S. total of 586 was a gain of four rigs. Oil rigs grew by one to 480 and gas rig numbers increased by two to 100. Miscellaneous rig totals grew one to six and the nation’s offshore count also added one for a total of 14.

Oklahoma’s count fell by two to 43 while a year ago, the state’s rig count was 41.

Compared to a year ago, the nation’s rig count fell by 37 from 623 and the decline included 19 oil rigs a nd 21 gas rigs while the number of miscellaneous rigs grew by three.

The rig count in Texas, according to Baker Hughes grew one to 278 a nd the count in North Dakota was unchanged at 33. New Mexico saw no change with its total of 106 rigs. Louisiana’s count grew two to 31.

The Red Top Rig Report showed Kansas dropped two to fall to 15 rigs . Colorado stayed at nine and Ohio remained at nine as well. Pennsylvania’s total was unchanged at 15 rigs. Utah gained one to reach 12 rigs. West Virginia continued with 10 rigs and Wyoming saw a gain of one rig to r each 20.
