FORT SILL – The Fires Center of Excellence and Redleg Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club welcomed Sgt. 1st Class Nicole Barnett into the prestigious club at a July 29 induction ceremony.
Barnett began her Army career at Fort Sill in 2011 and since then, she has excelled in many roles including team leader, squad leader, and battalion chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear noncommissioned officer in charge, Lawton officials said in a news release.
Barnett also earned the title of Fort Sill’s Drill Sergeant of the Year just six weeks ago.
“I think [these are] huge accomplishments for myself,” Barnett said in the news release, regarding her induction into the SAMC and winning DSOY. “I take them very personally because this is all for the soldiers.”
Lawton City Manager Michael Cleghorn attended the induction ceremony at Fort Sill and praised Barnett on this monumental achievement.
“Those who are added to the ranks of such a revered club represent what is best about the United States military and what Audie Murphy represented,” Cleghorn said in the news release. “We congratulate Sgt. 1st Class Barnett on her induction. The process to be selected is difficult but is intended to recognize the best of the best.”
Named after Sgt. Audie Murphy – a World War II hero, movie actor, and country and western songwriter and poet – the SAMC is a nonprofit, private organization consisting of the top 2% of noncommissioned officers into respective chapters across Army installations. Members are selected based on their demonstrated leadership, professionalism and overall military knowledge.
