From staff reports Rainfall totals in Oklahoma averaged 1.03 inches for the week of July 15-21, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The July 16 U.S. Drought Monitor Report said drought conditions were rated 63% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up 13 points from previous year. Additionally, 18% of the state was in the moderate to exceptional drought categories, down two points from the previous year.
Statewide temperatures averaged in the upper 70s to low 80s. Topsoil and subsoil moisture conditions were rated adequate to short. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork.
Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared for the week of July 15-21: Small grains: Oats harvested reached 81%, up 11 points from the previous week but unchanged from normal.
Row crops: Corn silking reached 85%, up 16 points from the previous week and 27 points from normal. Corn dough reached 19%, up 13 points from the previous week. Corn dented reached 5%, up five points from the previous week.
Sorghum headed reached 18%, up six points from the previous week but down four points from normal. Sorghum coloring reached 5%, up five points from the previous week and one point from normal.
Soybeans emerged reached 90%, up six points from the previous week and three points from normal.
Soybeans blooming reached 12%, up two points from the previous week but down 15 points from normal.
Peanuts pegging reached 50%, up 14 points from the previous week and six points from normal.
Upland cotton squaring reached 65%, up 15 points from the previous week and two points from normal. Upland cotton setting bolls reached 5%, up five points from the previous week but down nine points from normal.
Hay: The second cutting of alfalfa hay reached 92%, up nine points from the previous week and two points from normal. The third cutting of alfalfa hay reached 25%, up 15 points from the previous week but down 13 points from normal.
The second cutting of other hay reached 44%, up 10 points from the previous week and 14 points from normal.
Pasture and livestock: Pasture and range condition was rated at 83% good to fair. Livestock condition was rated at 87% good to fair.
