LAWTON – Southwest Ledger has compiled a list of Southwest Oklahoma holiday events to help readers ring in the season. Check out what’s happening near you!

Altus Home For The Holidays

Altus’ annual Home For The Holidays event will begin at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11. The parade begins on Main Street before heading down the street to Western Oklahoma State College and then concluding at the Jackson County Courthouse. Prior to the parade, ample refreshments will be available and plenty of Christmas shopping opportunities in the downtown area. And be sure to enter the “Candy Cane Cash” drawing, as winners will be chosen and announced at 8 p.m.

Duncan Holiday and Art Show and Sale

At the Chisolm Trail Arts Council Art Gallery in Duncan, at 810 W. Walnut Ave., from now until Dec. 16, the Duncan Holiday Art Show and Sale will feature local and regional artists’ artwork for a chance at prizes in different art categories. Among the artistic styles on hand will be photography, painting, sculpture and other art media.

Duncan Christmas Parade

This Saturday, downtown Duncan will come alive with its annual Duncan Christmas Parade. It will be a festive event featuring antique cars, tractors, marching bands, equestrian entries, decorated floats and – of course – Santa Claus himself, making their way down Duncan’s Main Street beginning at 3 p.m.

Christmas in Frederick

This Tillman County town will be experiencing plenty of holiday cheer on Dec. 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the “My Favorite Christmas” parade in downtown Frederick. There will be plenty of floats, cars and walking exhibits on hand. For details, visit www.frederickokchamber.org.

Greer County’s Hometown Christmas

Both Greer County towns of Granite and Mangum are holding Christmas parades and festivals – in Granite on Dec. 4 and in Mangum on Dec. 11 – where there will be craft booths, hot dogs for the kids and a bingo event where there will also be a $1,000 giveaway of “Greer Bucks.”

Marlow Christmas Parade

At 10 a.m. on Dec. 4, downtown Marlow will highlight its own Christmas parade on Main Street, kicking the holiday season off in style. Be sure to bring a chair and a blanket to keep warm and watch as decorated floats and cars make their way down Main Street for this family-themed, holiday event.

Walters Christmas Parade

Walters will hold its Christmas parade Sunday, Dec. 5 on Broadway. On hand will be riding clubs, antique tractors, Ft. Sill Marching Band, floats, clowns and more. Also, Santa will be handing out candy after the parade. For more information go to www.walterschamber.com.

Waurika Magical Main Street and Christmas Parade

The annual Christmas parade in downtown Waurika, which includes the Magical Main Street event, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. 

This parade is all the more magical because it takes place as the sun goes down and the Christmas lights really get to shine. There will be lighted floats, decorated cars, tractors and horse-drawn wagons. Santa Claus, of course, will also be on hand, chauffeured down the street by the Waurika Fire Department.

Holiday In The Park, Lawton

From now until Dec. 31, Lawton’s Holiday In The Park will take place, complete with the park decorated with lights, ornaments, and cut-outs. There will be a horse-drawn carriage on site and holiday drinks and treats will be on hand for one and all.

Living Christmas Tree, Lawton

Beginning at 7 p.m., Dec. 10, and again at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11 and 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Dec. 12, Lawton’s Living Christmas Tree at First Baptist Church, will be available to see. The tree is 39 feet tall and comprised of thousands and computer-controlled lights. Alongside the majestic tree will be a 100-voice choir, a full orchestra and a cast of many. The lights of the tree move in sync with the holiday music.

Medicine Park Christmas Parade and Carnival

In historic and unique Medicine Park, Saturday, Dec. 18 will be the day the town truly gets in the Christmas spirit with not only a Christmas parade on East Lake Drive – complete with decorated floats, horses, antique cars and Santa Claus himself, but also contests and games for folks of all ages.
