State Water Plan Update meeting slated

From staff reports The Oklahoma Water Resources Board will hold a meeting to discuss the conclusion of its 50-year Comprehensive Water Plan, including preliminary recommendations for each region.

The meeting will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 4 at Cameron University, 2800 W. Gore Blvd., in the Mc-Mahon Centennial Complex, McCasland Ballroom A/B.

According to the meeting agenda, officials from the board, which issues water permits throughout the state, will “provide context on preliminary draft recommendations topics, such as water infrastructure and workforce, water governance, regional solutions, reliable supplies and water data and information.”

The purpose of the meeting is to engage the public in needs assessments and potential solutions to water quality and shortages.

Every 10 years, the board conducts an update to the state’s 50-year comprehensive water plan. Meetings are held across the state for input and planning purposes. The state’s water planning areas are divided by watershed boundaries, rather than city and county lines.

The meeting will include the following watersheds and its communities:

• Southwestern Watershed – Harmon, Jackson and Greer counties, and portions of Tillman, Kiowa, Beckham, Roger Mills, Comanche and Washita counties.

• Beaver-Cache Watershed – southern portion of Caddo County in the north to the Red River on the south, and including all or portions of Tillman, Caddo, Comanche, Cotton, Grady, Stephens and Jefferson counties.

• Lower Washita Watershed – all of Carter, Love and Marshall counties and parts of Canadian, Caddo, Comanche, Grady, McClain, Garvin, Pontotoc, Stephens, Murray, Johnston, Jefferson and Bryan counties.
