Street repaving program progressing

LAWTON – Fifteen more streets in the mayor’s “On Target, On Time” mill-and-asphalt overlay program will be resurfaced in coming weeks.

Streets scheduled to be repaved include Ferris Avenue between Fort Sill Boulevard and 17th Street; E. Gore Boulevard between Lawrie Tatum Road and Flower Mound Road; and 11th Street between Lee Boulevard and King Road.

A $5.1 million contract on the 15 streets was awarded March 12 by the City Council to T&G Construction of Lawton. T&G was the lowest of three bidders for the job, said Chris Serrano, a civil engineer with consultants EST.

Earlier this month Councilman George Gill reported that the first 10 streets in the program were completed Feb. 27 – 19 days ahead of schedule. The cost of repaving those streets was approximately $1.5 million, according to Caitlin Gatlin, communications and marketing manager for the City of Lawton.

A contract on repairs to the last 15 streets in the program is expected to be awarded soon, perhaps at the March 26 council meeting.

Mayor Stan Booker’s “10 Wins” project was launched last October, but expanded to 40 streets throughout the city and was renamed “On Target, on Time.” Booker said he wants all 40 improvement projects to be finished by Thanksgiving Day in November.
