IRVINE, Calif. – Home sellers across the country realized a profit of $94,092 on the typical sale in 2021, according to the latest U.S. Home Sales Report. That number marked a 45% increase from $64,931 last year and a 71% increase from $55,000 two years ago.

Profits rose in more than 90% of housing markets with enough data to analyze, according to the report. The latest figure, based on median purchase and resale prices, marked the highest level in the U.S. since at least 2008.

The U.S. Home Sales Report is produced by Attom, which curates the nation’s premier property database.

The $94,092 profit on the median-priced home sale in 2021 represented a 4.3% return on investment compared to the original purchase price, Attom said in a news release. The ROI was up from 33.6% last year and from 30.6% in 2019.
