Will lifestyle over luxury continue as search trend for potential homebuyers?

SEATTLE - The 2025 Zillow Zeitgeist, an annual review on how Americans search for homes, shows that home shoppers are gravitating toward adaptable spaces and attainable comforts versus high-end features and square footage.

Search behavior shows buyers in 2025 searched for homes that offer access to nature and deliver small daily comforts. In previous years, Oklahomans showed little interest in search for waterfront properties. In 2025, Oklahoma saw a notable spike in searches for “lake, dock, river, waterfront and beach...” according to Zillow.

“Across the county, buyers want homes that can flex for family, offer access to nature and deliver small daily comforts that make life feel easier and more joyful,” said Amanda Pendleton, Zillow’s home trends expert.

Overall, in 2025, lifestyle over luxury was the defining theme of Americans’ home-search behavior.
