Former Elgin superintendent received Purple Heart for World War II service

ELGIN – On July 1, 1942, Elgin native Arthur Farrar left his job as the Superintendent of Public Schools and enlisted in the U.S.Coast Guard Reserves as an Apprentice Seaman. Before accepting the position of superintendent, Farrar had been a teacher before becoming the high school principal.

Governor appoints new leader of embattled Mental Health Department

OKLAHOMA CITY — A struggling state agency will have its third commissioner in two and a half years.Gov. Kevin Stitt appointed Josh Anderson on Friday to be the interim leader of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
