Duncan council marks beginning of mayor’s second term

DUNCAN – Duncan City Council recently marked the start of Mayor Robert Armstrong’s second term and chose a new vice mayor.Armstrong was sworn into office and signed the oath of office during a special meeting May 6 at the Duncan Police Complex.

Turnpike Authority customer service reps save man’s life

Marcus Williams, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s Customer Service director, reported recently that his division fielded hundreds of thousands of telephone calls in 2021. One of them saved a man’s life.

MPEDA to cancel Discover Medicine Park contract

MEDICINE PARK – The Medicine Park Economic Development Authority’s current agreement with Gary Gregory, a contractor who manages the Discover Medicine Park page on Facebook, will end next month.At Gregory’s request, the board voted 4-0 May 9 to cancel his existing contract effective June 1.

LAWTON – Prosecutors and county commissioners in southwest Oklahoma are seeking to build a first-rate opioid treatment center.The facility would be built with settlement funds from lawsuits filed against national pharmaceutical companies for their role in promoting the opioid drug crisis.
