Mayor Stan Booker wants Lawton voters to extend the PROPEL CIP program for six more years and earmark some of the tax revenue for specific programs, such as street maintenance, water/sewer system repairs, economic/industrial development incentives, and a modern traffic signals system.

Cursive writing may become new law

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lawmakers don’t want cursive handwriting to become a cryptic code to future readers. A measure sent to Governor Kevin Stitt’s desk last week, House Bill 3727, would require students from the third through fifth grades to receive instruction in cursive handwriting.

Medicine Park to prepare scope for Town Hall renovation project

MEDICINE PARK – The Medicine Park Board of Trustees took the first step recently toward rebuilding the facade at Town Hall. The trustees directed staff on April 18 to prepare the scope of work and seek price quotes for the project, then present the quotes to the board at its next meeting.

Speed limit increased on portion of turnpike; caution still advised

LAWTON – It’s been about a five-year process from start to finish, but it’s now legal to drive 80 miles per hour along a 59-mile portion of the Interstate 44/H.E. Bailey Turnpike between Lawton and Chickasha. The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority installed the new highway speed limit signs on April 18.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Two resolutions authored by Pro Tem Greg Treat were adopted in the state Senate last week. The first, Senate Resolution 42, congratulated the Oklahoma City Blue for winning the 2024 National Basketball Association G League Championship.

Increased gasoline prices hold steady in Sooner State

OKLAHOMA CITY – Gasoline prices held at higher amounts last week, reaching an average of $3.22 per gallon across Oklahoma. It’s a penny less than a week ago but 15 cents more than one month ago, reports the American Automobile Association.
