Local media panelists encourage trust between news outlets, public

LAWTON – Small communities are at risk of losing their local newsrooms, which prompted three area journalists to encourage cooperation and trust between residents and news outlets in the Lawton area.

Youth Sports Authority secures site for new sports complex

LAWTON – Lawton’s search for a site for the city’s indoor youth sports complex is over. The Lawton Youth Sports Authority voted 6-0 March 14 to purchase nearly 85 acres of land on the southwest corner of East Gore Boulevard and Southeast 45th Street, south of MacArthur High School, for the complex.
An engineering contract for a project to widen this unlined section of Numu Creek in southeast Lawton was approved by the City Council. Garver will be paid up to $687,825 to develop a project management plan for improving the creek from upstream of South Railroad Street and extending north-northwest a third of a mile to downstream of Lee Boulevard. LAWTON – A seven- member Homeless Action Committee has been established to “reduce the community impact of homelessness” by identifying services available locally and referring homeless individuals to servicing agencies.
