Prolonged drought aggravated by intense summer temperatures are affecting water supplies and suppliers in western Oklahoma. The Foss Reservoir Master Conservancy District declared an emergency earlier this month which affected several thousand customers for almost a week.

Alternative highway funding studied

OKLAHOMA CITY — A statewide transportation research project is underway and needs some help from drivers across the state. “Fair Miles Oklahoma” is a state Transportation Department research program aimed at identifying alternative approaches to funding the state’s transportation needs.

Oklahoma Sports Network aiming for larger coverage area

LAWTON — Oklahoma Sports Network covers 11 high schools in the southwest and central parts of the state, but there’s still room to grow, company owner Eric Sharum said.

Streets closed for reconstruction

LAWTON — MTZ Construction has closed Indiana Avenue from Kincaid Avenue to the cul-de-sac (1,000 feet north of Fullbright Lane) and Brighton Drive from Brighton Place to Mieling Drive for road reconstruction, according to a news release from City Hall.
The Lawton Water Authority will spend $26 million to repair the damaged concrete spillway and apron at Lake Ellsworth. The 363-foot-long spillway was damaged when heavy rains in 2015 forced the city to open the floodgates to release runoff water that otherwise would have topped the dam. Lawton, Comanche receive ARPA grants to repair dams

OKLAHOMA CITY — Lawton and Comanche both received American Rescue Plan Act grants from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board recently to finance dam repairs. The Lawton Water Authority received two ARPA grants totaling $11 million from the state agency.
