Lawton, Comanche receive ARPA grants to repair dams

OKLAHOMA CITY — Lawton and Comanche both received American Rescue Plan Act grants from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board recently to finance dam repairs. The Lawton Water Authority received two ARPA grants totaling $11 million from the state agency.

Chisholm Trail Heritage Center hosts 13th annual celebration of cowboy legacy, culture

By Tori White | Southwest Ledger   DUNCAN — From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 22, Chisholm Trail Heritage Center will hold their annual National Day of the Cowboy celebration. This will be the museum’s 13th year hosting the event.

The speed limit on the H.E. Bailey Turnpike was raised recently to 80 miles per hour between Chickasha and Oklahoma City. The section from Chickasha south to Lawton will remain at 75 mph for the next few months, “until we finish an upcoming dowel bar refit project later this year,” state Transportation Department spokeswoman Lisa Shearer-Salim said.
