Council approves rezoning bid for Wendy’s restaurant

ALTUS — A rezoning was approved by the city council that will allow for a Wendy’s restaurant to open on Main Street. The council made its decision July 11 at the council’s special meeting. The 1.2 acres at 2515 N. Main St. was rezoned from agriculture to an urban commercial district.
An asphalt overlay project on US-62 between Lawton and Cache is progressing. The state Transportation Commission awarded a $6.2 million contract on the job to Overland Corp. in April; the work is projected to be finished in August, weather permitting, reported Mills Leslie of the DOT’s Strategic Communications Division. Lawton sets municipal $60M bond election date

LAWTON — Lawton voters will decide the fate of a $60 million bond issue this fall. The Lawton City Council voted unanimously July 11 to call for a municipal election on the proposition,  which would extend the city’s ad valorem road improvement program for another 10 years.

OSBI investigating District 1 commissioner

LAWTON — The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation of Comanche County Commissioner John O’Brien, who represents District 1 on the commission. OSBI’s public information manager, Hunter McKee, confirmed the investigation Thursday but did not comment on the allegations.
