Kiowa County voters recently approved a new countywide sales tax, which will provide funding for building and equipping a new jail. The county’s proposition for a 1% sales tax easily passed June 13, with 55.76% of voters supporting the proposal and 44.

CHICKASHA — The Municipal Authority voted to allow the Community Foundation to sublease a portion of the Visitor Center as retail space “for the convenience of the public and to help defer … maintenance costs” of the new Downtown Park.

ELGIN — Elgin may team up with Comanche County Memorial Hospital to build a stand-alone emergency room and a primary care center at the city’s industrial park. The Elgin City Council discussed the possibility with CCMH’s executive director, Sean McAvoy, on June 13 but did not take any action.
