Theater reopens day after storm rolls into Lawton

LAWTON — Moviegoers didn’t have to wait long for the Vaska Theatre to reopen after the June 15 storm left numerous businesses and homes without power.
Following the release of a recording of the March 6 McCurtain County Commissioners’ meeting which contained racist and offensive remarks made by county officials, Idabel City Mayor Craig Young, seated, speaks during the April 17 commissioners’ meeting. Young recently received a letter from State Attorney General Gentner Drummond outlining the investigation into whether or not the AG’s office could ouster McCurtain County Sheriff Kevin Clardy and Deputy Alicia Manning. Voters narrow field for special election in McCurtain County

IDABEL — Voters in Idabel and other McCurtain County towns went to the polls last week to narrow down the list of candidates in a special election for county commissioner. The primary was held to replace County Commissioner Mark Jennings who resigned his seat in April.

Winter wheat yield forecast down 22.6% from last year

According to the June 9 United States Department of Agriculture’s Crop Production Report, winter wheat production is forecast at 1.14 billion bushels – up 1% from the May 1 forecast and up 3% from 2022.  As of June 1, U.S. yield is forecast at 44.9 bushels per acre, up 0.
