Lawton adds to list of neglected buildings

LAWTON – Lawton recently added 14 buildings, including a former motel on Cache Road, to the city’s list of dilapidated and dangerous buildings. The Lawton City Council voted March 15 to place the former Super 9 Motel, 1201 NW Cache Road, on the list. The back of the property, 1202 NW Lawton Ave.

Military family sales tax exemption bill moves to House

OKLAHOMA CITY – A bill that would provide a sales tax exemption to spouses of military veterans killed in the line of duty passed the state Senate and now moves to the House for its consideration. The Senate passed Senate Bill 1670 and an emergency clause 46-0 on March 14. State Rep.

FISTA accepts bid to replace gas line at Central Plaza

LAWTON – The FISTA Development Trust Authority hired a company Thursday to replace a leaking gas line in Central Plaza. The board accepted a bid from Andy’s Plumbing, Heat and Air to put in a new gas line for Suite 82 at Central Plaza, where the old El Chico restaurant was located.

Lawton school chief objects to teacher exit interview bill

OKLAHOMA CITY – A legislative proposal that would require teacher exit interviews has drawn criticism from Lawton Public Schools Superintendent Kevin Himes. The measure passed the Senate 29-16 on March 15 and now heads to the state House for its consideration.

City changes weight limits for two bridges

LAWTON – A recent structural engineering inspection prompted the City of Lawton to reduce the weight limits on the two bridges south of I-44 and SW 11th Street that cross Wolf Creek and its tributary, city officials announced.

Lawton monitoring noxious odors in southwest of city

The city of Lawton has been monitoring the recurring problem of noxious odors in southwest Lawton, officials announced Thursday. When noxious odors occur, the city’s industrial pretreatment staff is notified and there is an immediate response, according to the news release.
