OKLAHOMA CITY – Southwest Oklahoma communities have received badly needed financial assistance from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board recently. For example, the board on Tuesday approved a 30.5-year, low-interest $11.1 million loan to the Hobart Public Works Authority.

Rainfall totals averaged 1.17 inches across Oklahoma for the week of May 10-16, with the south-central district recording the highest total at 2.09 inches. Drought conditions were rated 49% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, up six points from the previous week, according to the May 11 U.S.

OKLAHOMA CITY – In part because of the City of Lawton’s excellent financial status, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board on Tuesday approved a $47 million low-interest loan to the Lawton Water Authority.

Furniture store's Lawton groundbreaking put off to September

LAWTON – A groundbreaking ceremony for the Mathis Brothers retail furniture complex has been delayed until September, a company spokesman said.  The Mathis Brothers project will be part of a new retail development totaling 200,000 square feet of space. The project will be located at 4800 N.

LAWTON – Municipal aquatic features will open soon, prior to the Memorial Day holiday May 31. • City splash pads will open to the public on Saturday. Those include Clement Washington Sr. splash pad at 6th and Belmont (operating from noon to 5 p.m.

Altus names ADA Robbins city attorney

ALTUS – Longtime Jackson County resident Sommer Robbins has been hired as the new city attorney beginning May 24.  Robbins, an assistant district attorney in Jackson County for the past five years, was offered the job after the Altus City Council met in executive session May 4.
