LAWTON – Two Lawton City Council members seeking re-election have opponents, but a third council member has been re-elected unopposed.

Ward 7 Councilwoman Onreka Johnson is opposed by Cindy Edgar, and Ward 8 Councilman Randy Warren has drawn a challenge from Doug Wells. Ward 6 Councilman Sean Fortenbaugh filed unopposed for another three-year term.

The three-day filing period closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The primary election is set for Aug. 25.

Lawton has eight City Council members, who are paid $5,000 per year, and a mayor whose compensation is $15,000 per year.

The City Council and Mayor Stan Booker, like all city employees except for the unionized fire and police departments, took an unpaid one-day furlough last month and are slated to do so again this month.
