11th annual Beans and Baskets to feature Tom Basile

LAWTON - Author, speaker and commentator Tom Basile will be the keynote speaker for Southwest Oklahoma Republican Women’s 11th annual Beans and Baskets fundraiser at Altus’ Martha Road Baptist Church, 20388 E. County Road 158.

Basile worked on the Bush-Cheney 2000 campaign was later part of the Bush administration. He also served as senior press advisor to the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq from 2003-2004.

Basile’s latest book, “Let It Sink In: Columns and Commentary from the Decade of Obama & Trump,” is a compilation of his articles that “takes readers on a journey through a tumultuous decade to ensure we have a battle plan for the future,” according to the author’s website.

In 2011 Basile was one of two conservatives to be featured as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year feature about citizen engagement around the world.

During last Thursday’s meeting, several precautions were discussed in order to ensure the wellbeing of those in attendance. Temperature checks will be conducted at the door. Attendees must masks while entering and while in line for food; no more than eight seats at a table – no joining tables. Condiments will be individually wrapped. In addition, SWOKRW recommends frequent hand washing for those preparing foods.

SWORW will also honor Rep. Charles Ortega for his 12 years of service to District 52.
