Crop report: Drought levels stay unchanged

Rainfall totals averaged 0.16 of an inch across Oklahoma the week of March 2-7, with the north-central district recording the highest totals at 0.51 of an inch.

Drought conditions were rated 31% abnormally dry to exceptional drought, the same as the previous week, according to the March 4 U.S. Drought Monitor Report. Additionally, 14% of the state was in the moderate drought to exceptional drought category, down 1% from the previous week.

Statewide, temperatures averaged in the upper 40s to low 50s. 

Here’s a snapshot of how crops fared in the first week of March:

Small grains: Winter wheat jointing reached 2%, up one point from the previous year but down three points from normal. Rye jointing reached 3%, up two points from the previous year but down one point from normal.

Pasture and livestock:

Pasture and range condition was rated at 64% fair to poor. Livestock condition was rated at 86% good to fair.
