Sanders appointed to Funeral Board

KINGFISHER — Former state Rep. and House Majority Leader Mike Sanders was recently tapped to serve a five-year term on the Oklahoma Funeral Board.

The board is the state licensing and regulatory authority for the funeral service profession. Its mission is to serve and protect the public interest, within the board’s state-vested powers to regulate and educate the profession.

Serving on the funeral board is an honor, Sanders said in a news release.

“With my family background in the funeral business and my former service in the state Legislature, I feel I can bring a unique combination of perspectives to the board,” he said.

A native of western Oklahoma, Sanders represented District 59 in the Oklahoma House for 12 years until he was term limited in 2020, according to the news release. Previously, he served as director of interns for former President George W. Bush.

Sanders also served as deputy chief of staff for rural development and as senior advisor to the chief of the Natural Resources Conservation Service for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a member of the Council for Small Business for Oklahoma from 1999 until 2003.

Then-President Bush presented the Distinguished Honor Service Award to Sanders for his service to the White House and the nation on Sept. 11, 2001.

In January, then-President Donald Trump appointed Sanders to the Community Development Advisory Board – a position he still holds. Oklahoma House Speaker Charles McCall appointed Sanders to the State Governmental Technology Applications Review Board in April.

A resident of Kingfisher, Sanders owns Sanders Strategy and Consulting Group LLC. He graduated from Oklahoma Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in history/prelaw.

Sanders is married to Nellie Sanders. They have two sons, Davis and Walker.
