The public is invited to the City of Lawton’s 120th birthday celebration and reception Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The event is free and open to all; light refreshments will be served.
Lawton was founded on August 6, 1901. During the ceremony, Mayor Stan Booker will recognize historical organizations and community members such as The Lawton Rangers, Pioneer
Women’s Club, Buffalo Soldiers and Outstanding Citizen Sonya Haden. In addition, the late Sgt. Claude H. Brazzel of the Lawton Police Department will be honored with the “Lawton Award of Excellence.” A lifetime resident of Lawton and a Marine Corps veteran, Brazzel, 70, was killed in a one-vehicle wreck in January 2020. He had served in the LPD for 45 years.
