LAWTON – Yoga-oriented Mimosa Mountain Wellness has experienced some twists and turns the last three years, but life seems to be flowing in the right direction for owner Ashley Morrison and her team of instructors.
In 2018, Morrison was helping a friend receive yoga instructional hours, so she held an in-home session and invited friends.
“We created a Facebook event and people showed up every time we did it,” she said. “Fast-forward a few years and I decided I wanted to be in an uplifting place (outside my home). So, I decided to host a movement space or a place where classes could be held, where people could focus on mindfulness, meditation and body movement.”
Mimosa Mountain, located at 106 SW A in Lawton, has a large following that attends a variety of classes including a yoga and brunch event scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 15. Morrison also plans to add a tea house in the coming months using locally sourced herbal products as much as possible.
She isn’t stopping there. Plans are being made to develop an animal yoga program in conjunction with Black Dog Farm in Fletcher. People who attend the sessions will perform the yoga moves on the front lawn as baby goats sleep or playfully jump on the participants. The first baby goat yoga session is set for 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12. A brunch will be served by Electric Eclectic Eats.
The animal yoga program is another step for Mimosa Mountain, which symbolizes a triumphant life built out of constancy, focus, joy and love, Morrison said.
The yoga studio offers classes in Tai Chi, energy therapy, spiritual development, stretching, calisthenics, self-defense, variations of yoga depending on a person’s ability and KOGA, which is a class for kids and taught by kids.
“I feel like we are drawn to places and things we need, and we offer a very calm atmosphere here,” Morrison said. “This is centered around well-being. We are excited to be here and to work in this environment. We have fun here by offering several outdoor events like dance parties.”
Morrison, a former tattoo artist, quit her job as she began her quest to open the Lawton yoga studio.
“Everything has gone well. I have so many friends who have helped and everything is in the right place,” she said. “It’s gone as expected and I continue to expect things will work out perfectly.”
Morrison believes her yoga clients come to the studio feeling good, and leave feeling better.
“With the focus of most individuals being on the more problematic areas of their life, it is time we be reminded of the true power we each hold within ourselves,” she wrote in a company brochure. “It is time we awaken from the diluted views of the quality our lives possess. We were all born to deliberately create. To allow the possibility of the impossible to flow through our being and into a visible, tangible reality. Mimosa Mountain is not just a building. Not just a person. Not just a lesson or a tasty treat. It is a feeling. A feeling of wholeness.”
