OKLAHOMA CITY – U.S. Sen. James Lankford returned Saturday from the Rio Grande Valley sector of the southern border, near Brownsville, Texas, with Department of Homeland Security officials.

Lankford went to provide oversight of facility conditions and operations and further assess the areas where Congress needs to address immigration, asylum and detention procedures, according to Lankford’s office.

The senator began Friday at the Brownsville Port of Entry, followed by an in-person assessment of the Brownsville Immigration Hearing Facility to discuss reinstating Migrant Protection Protocols, known as the “Remain in Mexico Policy.” Then, Lankford was briefed at the Fort Brown Station on the MPP enrollment process before moving on to the Donna Holding Facility for additional oversight of ongoing operations.

Lankford saw the areas of fencing that Biden has decided to construct, as well as the current levee remediation sites proposed by Biden’s administration.
