OKLAHOMA CITY – A suspected bank robber had just a few minutes to enjoy his loot.
Lucas McQuade Biggs, 30, identified in an arrest report as a transient from Moore, was indicted in Oklahoma City’s Western District federal court on a felony charge of bank robbery.
He is accused of a Jan. 24 holdup at InterBank in south OKC that netted an undisclosed amount of money.
An affidavit filed by an FBI special agent said after Briggs approached a teller’s station at the bank, he told the woman, “Shut up and read the note,” and laid on the counter a small piece of notebook paper on which instructions were written.
The teller said she removed all the cash from her top drawer and placed the money on the counter. The bandit placed the money – which included at least 29 easily identifiable bills totaling $124 – inside a backpack he was carrying, told the woman, “Have a nice day,” and left the building.
An Oklahoma City police officer patrolling nearby was alerted and spotted a suspect a block east of the bank. A chase ensued, and the suspect was soon captured in a drainage canal.
Police reported finding in the channel a plastic bag stuffed with cash that included the $124 reported stolen during the robbery, as well as a notebook containing paper that appeared to match the demand note.
Biggs pleaded not guilty at his Feb. 10 arraignment and was released on $5,000 bond to a “sober living” house in Midwest City. His case is set for the court’s jury docket the week of April 12.
