Empty Bowls Dinner set for Thursday

Body

The 12th annual Empty Bowls Dinner will take place from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Elgin High School cafeteria. Don't worry about getting a ticket; just pick up a bowl when you arrive! Bowls are $10 each.
Elgin High School art classes and the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America organization invite the community to come out and support the effort to raise money for hunger relief. The name “Empty Bowls” is to reminds people of the many people who go to bed hungry because their bowls are empty.

Elgin High School students have created handmade clay bowls. People who attend the event may purchase a handcrafted bowl for $10 and receive a free meal of soup, beans, cornbread and dessert.

The following are contributing soup for the dinner:

  • Boompa’s Burgers.
  • Ann’s Country Kitchen.
  • Hacienda Las Margaritas.
  • China Garden.
  • EHS FFA Mother’s Club.
  • EHS FCCLA Club.
  • Elgin United Methodist Church.
  • Peggy Biegler, contributing pasta fagioli.
  • The Old Plantation, contributing yeast rolls.

With almost 200 bowls to choose from, there should be something to please everyone.
Money raised this year will go to the Elgin Community Food Pantry, the Lawton Food Bank and Feed the Children. Last year, the dinner and later sales raised over $4,000. This year, organizers hope to raise $6,000.
Over the last 11 years, the dinner has raised a little over $26,000 for the food banks and Feed the Children.
