Comanche County updates ambulance districts

LAWTON – Comanche County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a resolution updating the county’s emergency medical service ambulance districts.

The resolution acknowledges the following ambulance services in the county outside the Lawton/Fort Sill city limits: Apache EMS, Carnegie EMS, Comanche County Memorial Hospital and Kirk’s EMS.

The update was prompted in part by the news that Kirk’s EMS, which is based in Lawton, will have an ambulance stationed in Elgin, said Emergency Management Director Clint Langford.

“This means that the Kirk’s ambulance is now closer than Apache EMS, so they get that area now, resulting in faster ambulance services for citizens living in (the) NE Comanche County area,” he said in an email to a Hilliary Media Group reporter.

Earlier this year, Elgin officials approved a one-year contract with Kirk’s to put an ambulance in the old Elgin police station at no cost to the city. The ambulance will be staffed 24/7 at the Advanced Life Support level.

County officials also decided to update EMS ambulance districts to reflect changes in the far northwest corner of the county.

“Previously, Jackson County Ambulance had an ambulance stationed in Snyder/Mt. Park and was closer to the citizens than Comanche County Memorial Ambulance coming from Lawton,” he said. “That service is no longer available in Kiowa County, so it reverts to CCMH Ambulance.”
